Screen CastScreencast-O-Matic
Screencastomatic is one of many screencasting options to create an asynchronous lesson, but the one I’ve found the easiest to use. When you open the program, you can choose to record yourself, your screen, or both. It’s easy to choose which section of the screen to display, as well as to stop to include video clips, etc. It’s also a breeze to edit the sound, or cut out sections of the video. Once complete, the video can be uploaded to YouTube or directly to their website with just a click, and videos under 15min are free.
For example, I whipped this video together when I realized I was taking a sick day and couldn’t afford to miss a class. I was able to cover a day’s worth of material, included the video clips I would have shown in class, and sent guided questions alongside it to make sure the students were learning. From start to finish, the process took me no more than 15 min.
